River Traffic

croatiantimes.com

The heaviest rains to hit the Chinese capital Beijing since 1951 turned these roads into rivers after a two-day non stop deluge.

In some places the "road river" was up to 17 foot deep - with many worried that bodies of people who had decided to sit out the weather might be trapped inside.

Other vehicles had been swept away by the flood - including this water truck that was washed off the bridge at Lesi village, in the Fangshan district of Beijing.

Local weather experts said that in the two days, the average rainfall in the city was 7 inches and in some place it was even 18 inches.

The torrential rail affected 6,200 square miles around Beijing, with 1,900,000 people forced to move and leaving 37 people dead.
