Winger and a Prayer

croatiantimes.com

This hopeless football team didn't stand a prayer of even winning the toss after a run of 15 straight defeats in India's West Bengal league.

But now they've turned their fortunes around after beginning each match with Hindu prayers for the goalposts.

Trevor Morgan - the British coach for the Bengal club - explained: "It's a bizarre ritual but it makes them feel confident about the upcoming match."

"And if they think they're going to get more goals, the goals seem to come," added Trevor, whose seen the side rise to the top of the local league.

Star striker Alberto Da Cunha explained: "There is no harm in worshipping. We, in India, worship almost every day. So what is the big fuss about worshipping goal posts?"

"I'm getting many more goals now than I used to," he added.
