Some matches might be about as interesting as watching grass grow.
But farmers in central China have got a turf job on their hands after converting an unused pitch in Chaohu, Anhui province, into crops.
The sports ground has remained empty since it was built by city officials three years ago.
Then after watching the ground turn into a wasteland local villagers cleared it, fertilised it, and turned it into a communal farm.
"The owners have done nothing with it for years. It is a sin to allow good farming land to go to waste," said one.
But the farmers are about to get a red card from Town Hall lawyers who say they have building plans for the land.
City sports director Tang Deshun said: "This land is needed but we will have to clear the farm first."
