This is the moment a fugitive killer finally realised his escape bid had got him out of his depth.
Li Tingzhi - from Lianhua, Yunnan province, southern China - had killed his former girlfriend and her new man and then tried to flee by swimming down a local river.
But he was caught when the current and rapids swept him nearly seven miles downstream where he was rescued by a police launch.
Li - who is now almost certain to face a death sentence in front of the firing squad - is now recovering as he awaits his trial.
"He might have been better off drowning. At least it is a more honourable way to die," said one neighbour.

Croatia to take part in building two pipelines
