A moped rider was crushed to death when a lorry carrying topsoil swerved it to avoid him - and then engulfed him in tons of earth.

The truck - in Zhengzhou, Henan province, central China - skidded and overturned spilling its load on top of the helpless rider.

Police believe the rider - so badly crushed she couldn't be identified - died instantly in the crash.

"This road is very dangerous. There are many building sites along this road and lots of trucks," said a police spokesman.

"The driver tried to avoid hitting her at a crossroads but unfortunately put his truck into a slide and he couldn't stop," they added.
