Love struck Patrick Erzer, 28, was left waiting for a week after putting up a poster made of 1,700 pictures of his girlfriend Sonja Wyler, 26, to create a poster asking her to marry him.
Although he put the placard up outside their flat at Sissach in Basel so she would see it on her on her way to work he was left waiting after his girlfriend simply failed to notice it.
He said every day she would head off to work and walk right past it and still failed to see the message.
He told Swiss newspaper Blick: "We have been talking for a while about getting married but she absolutely refused to consider it unless I came up with a way to ask her in an original way."
And although the idea of using 1,700 pictures of their 7 years together on a placard saying Sonja, will you marry me was original - Sonja failed to notice it.
He said: "She went past it on her way to work, when shopping, and even when driving out of the garage - and its a 20kph zone here."
In the end so many people had heard of the poster that it started to attract curious locals and she spotted them taking pictures of it.
She said: "I saw people standing there and then saw my name."
She then rushed to her boyfriend's work and gave him the answer he wanted to hear - a clear yes - and the couple then took off the rest of the day to celebrate their engagement.
They then travelled back to the poster where Sonja took a can of spray paint and added the words: "I do".
