Topping Out

croatiantimes.com

An out of control giant cement mixer killed eight builders asleep in their beds when he ploughed straight into their dormitory on this building site in central China.

Accident investigators say the shift workers wouldn't have stood a chance of surviving first the crash and then the fall to the ground.

"I can't believe it. Only yesterday he was talking about buying some toys for the children," said widow Liu Wen.

Another worker at the site, who'd been sleeping in a different dormitory on the giant building site in Zhengzhou, Henan province, said: "I woke up when I heard a loud cracking sound and then screams and shouts. It's horrific."

Police are now quizzing the driver of the truck.

"Accidents are sadly common on these big building sites. People are paid for the job, not the time. So they work around the clock and make mistakes," explained one.
