Feeline Fine: Patients Lap Up Cat Therapy

croatiantimes.com

A therapy centre in Poland thinks it's come up with the purr-fect treatment - by letting a cat curl up on your lap.

Psychologist Danuta Kowalewska, 28, has introduced what she calls 'Feline Therapy' at her clinic in Konin, Poland, where patients simply stroke specially trained moggies.

"Put a purring cat on your lap and you are instantly filled with inner happiness.

"It improves our mentality and mood and helps us to relax," she said.

Patients suffering from everything from autism to multiple sclerosis can benefit from the treatment, the clinic claims.

"Doctors always say the best way to overcome an illness is through positive thinking, and this is what cats provide.

"In the case of serious illnesses or disease such as multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy, sufferers are locked into their own worlds. But cats can help reach them.

"And cats also have a very good influence on children.

"Feline therapy can help children overcome shyness and can tame ADHA, because the child has to learn to be patient to make contact with a cat," Danuta added.
