Bjelovar and Zagreb host International Percussion Ensemble week

Artists from across the world are heading to the 6th International Percussion Ensemble Week, IPEW 2009 as it prepares to open up in Zagreb and Bjelovar.

The event from 8-11 January includes concert evenings, workshops and lectures.

IPEW’s art director Igor Lesnik said the festival focused on art and artworks which were original and interactive and classic.

The festival’s ceremonial opening concert will be on 8 January at Dom kulture in Bjelovar and there will be performances by the children’s choir of Bjelovar Music School ‘Vatroslav Lisinski’ as well as from prominent guests such as jazz vibist and marimbist Arthur Lipner (USA) and the 12-year-old percussion virtuoso Vid Jamnik from Slovenia. The Brazilian Percussion Ensemble led by Fernand Hashimot as well as the Spanish ensemble PerKu-Va and the Belgian MOL Percussion Orchestra will also perform.
