Croatian table-tennis player Sandra Paovic is fighting for her life

Croatian Times

Croatian table-tennis player Sandra Paovic, who was severely injured in a traffic accident near Paris ten days ago, is in critical condition.

Paovic suffered a severe cervical-spinal injury and was operated on the same day at a hospital in Rouen, but her condition was stable after the operation.

She has since developed a severe infection. Croatian national table-tennis team selector Neven Cegnar confirmed to the daily "24 sata" today (Mon) doctors were fighting to save her life.

Cegnar said: "Her life is in danger, but I am an optimist and believe there will be a miracle. If anyone can make it, it’s Sandra, for she is a fighter."

The Vukovar-born Paovic has received numerous daily messages of support from European tennis and handball players. Italian tennis player Nicoleta Stefanova has even opened the blog sandrapaovic.blogspot.com as a platform for collecting money for Paovic.
