UK flight bomb terror

croatiantimes.com

Terrified passengers had to evacuate a packed budget airline jet heading for Britain today (Wednesday) after a chilling terror bomb threat in mid-air.

The Wizz Air plane carrying 165 passengers was forced to turn around on its way to Luton and return to Timisoara airport in Romania just 15 minutes into the 6.20am flight.

This morning (Wednesday) local police and anti-organised crime squad officers were quizzing a suspect identified locally as Anghelescu Viorel, 49, from Constanta.

Wizz Air staff confirmed the mid-air drama but told of a potentially lethal mix-up over which jet was supposed to contain the bomb.

Air security staff at first identified the Whiz Air plane as the target and then minutes later named a second flight as the bomb plane.

Spokesman Daniel Amzar said: "The Wizz Air flight has returned to the ground and was checked thoroughly, in line with our bomb threats procedures.

"It has been confirmed that there was no bomb on the Wizz Air flight."

Timisoara police spokesperson Marinela Apostolache this morning (Weds) said that one suspect had been detained by the country's elite anti-organised crime force, DIICOT.

It is understood he was traced through phone records which pinpointed the bomb call to an address in Costanta, 400 miles from the airport.

Local airport police also confirmed that no explosive devices had been found after searches of two planes at Timisoara airport.

Wizz Air said passengers will continue their flight to London at lunchtime today after a six hour delay.
