A cemetery famous for laughing in the face of death is to host an Irish folk music festival. The Merry Cemetery - in Sapanta, Romania - encourages families of the dead to create cartoons of their life for their headstones and write comic poems listing their qualities and failings. Now Celtic composer Shaun Davey is to perform an opera among the graves backed by 120 Irish and local singers next month (August 12) "The idea of the cemetery is that you can conquer death with laughter and humour. We remember our dead whenever we laugh," explained one local.
