Pony and Zap

croatiantimes.com

A 15-year-old girl and her pony were zapped by thousands of volts when they walked over a buried electric cable after a rain storm, say police in Moscow, Russia.

Schoolgirl Maria Vorontsova had walked her mount over a wet lawn when it suddenly jolted violently.

"The ground was wet and my horse stumbled, then it stepped over something, and started shaking. It fell down and I was unable to get out from under it," she explained.

Vets say the horse died instantly and Maria is recovering after hospital treatment for an irregular heartbeat caused by the shock.

The incident is similar to a tragedy at Newmarket racecourse last year when two horses died after electric current from an underground cable was conducted through rainwater up to the horses' metal shoes.
