Short-sighted driver Karl Rogger was left dangling 50ft above a river after leaving his glasses at home when he tried to cross a bridge construction workers were dismantling.
The 67-year-old motorist failed to spot signs saying that the temporary bridge in Tuggen, Switzerland, was closed.
"We couldn't quite believe it when he came towards us. We thought he'd stop any minute and he didn't," said one worker.
He was only saved when the front wheels of his Mercedes saloon got caught in the scaffolding.
"The builders helped him climb out to safety. He said he had become used to using the temporary bridge and he couldn't read the road signs so he just kept going," said a police spokesman.
