Furious bee keeper Yang Jinfang claims he's been stung - after rivals poisoned 15,000,000 of his insects to put him out of business.

Yang and his partners had brought 600 hives from their farms in southern China to Xiazhuang, Hebei province, in northern China so they could feed on later-flowering blossom.

But overnight, he told police, the entire bee population was wiped out in 450 of his hives.

"On the same night our guard dog was poisoned so we know it must be foul play. There are local bee keepers around here who were jealous of us and thought we were stealing their trade," said Yang.

Farmers hire the bees to fly on their land to help pollinate their crops.

A police spokesman explained: "We have taken some of the hives in for tests to see if poison was used."
