Terrified schoolchildren watched in horror as a six foot long crocodile tried to eat one of their trendy Croc sandals while they sat on a river bank.
The youngsters - a boy and a girl - had just climbed out of the water in Sachsenburg, Austria, onto a small island when the reptile leaped out after them.
After snapping down the girl's pink Croc shoe, the beast spat it out and disappeared into the river again.
Reptile expert Helga Happ has told police that bite marks on the rubber sandal match exactly real crocodile teeth.
"It is likely that it was dumped into the river once it grew too large for its owner.
"It is not animal to be underestimated. Something this size is extremely dangerous," she explained.
