A bizarre fish-munching dinosaur has gone on show this weekend after scientists revealed it could be a 155 million year old relative of the modern day flamingo.

Experts believe the crow-sized creature perched in water on its long, stalk-like legs scooping up fish and shellfish in its curved flamingo-syle beak, and travelled to new hunting grounds with its huge pterodactyl-like wings.

Unlike the flamingo however the bird also had teeth. Scientists found 400 tiny molars inside the fossil's mouth and the remains of its last fish meal still undigested in its stomach.

And it also had no feathers – instead it was covered with hard bristles that helped it with flying. And despite its small body it had a wingspan of 1.2 metres and would place its wings behind its back when resting.

Dinosaur expert Eberhard Frey said at the exhibition in Bamberg Natural History Museum in Germany: "It's an extremely rare and wonderful specimen."
