Collar These Thugs

croatiantimes.com

Animal rights protesters have called for police to collar the thugs who fitted this helpless dog with a cruel steel neck shackle that was slowly choking it to death.

The dog - found wandering the streets of Taiyuan, Shanxi province, northern China - is understood to have been sealed into the quarter-inch thick metal collar when it was younger.

"As the dog grew, the collar got tighter and tighter throttling the dog a little more each day," said one rescue worker.

Firefighters eventually cut the collar - which weighed more than a kilogram - off and the dog is now recovering in a refuge centre.

Police believe the pooch could been kept as a guard dog or working animal until its collar made it too difficult to keep.

"This cruelty has been brought to our attention and we are trying to find the culprits," said a police spokesman.
