Alpine experts in Austria have pulled off their most bizarre rescue bid - after a giddy mountain goat suddenly lost its head for heights.
Pet goat Ricki was spotted stranded 9,000 ft up a cliffside in Rauris, near Salzburg, after his owner reported him missing.
Mountain goats are normally able to scale near vertical slopes with ease, but vets say Ricki had sprained one of his hooves.
Rescuers managed to winch the stranded billy goat to safety using a harness, after one of the team climbed up the rock face to reach him.
Team leader Ludwig Rasser said: "It was extremely steep but the biggest problem was that the entire slope was completely covered with wet grass, which makes it far more dangerous than rock ."
"It was extremely slippery so you can see why Ricki was hesitating," he added.
Now Ricki is recovering down in the valley with a flock of sheep until he recovers his head for heights.
"He's a pet and he wanders the whole mountain without a hitch normally. It's good to get him back down to earth again though," said his owner.
