The glassy eyes, the glazed expressions, the lederhosen - it can only be a Bavarian beer festival.

But there's a reason why these apparently famous boozers look like they've had a stiff one or two - they're all waxworks dressed up for the occasion by staff at Austria's branch of Madame Tussaud's.

Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger, singer Kylie Minogue and even Vienna's most famous composer Mozart donned tradition Alpine gear to mark the event, a smaller version of Germany's Oktoberfest.

Claudia Wiesner - director of Vienna's Wiener Wiesn beer festival - said: "People seem to love traditional Bavarian dress."

Lederhosen and dirndl dress makers say they're working flat out trying to cope with a world wide demand for the thigh-slapping leather shorts and low cut frocks.

"For some reason they seem to be incredibly popular in Russia and China," said one
