Hapless Feng Hu was trapped for five hours when he slipped while sweeping his window sills in Lucheng, Shanxi province, northern China, and ended up stuck behind his own security grille.

Feng - wearing just a dressing gown to protect his modestly from laughing crowds beneath his second floor apartment - was sandwiched between his windows and the steel mesh which is meant to keep burglars out.

He was eventually saved when fire fighters arrived and cut him out of his impromptu cage.

"He was cold and very embarrassed but apart from that he wasn't seriously hurt," said a fire service spokesman.
