Dithering dad Markus Mayer watched in horror as he struggled to get his luggage off a train - when the doors shut in his face with his three-year-old son on the station platform.
Markus and son Jeremias were supposed to be getting off the train in Bad Bevensen, Germany.
But after putting the youngster onto the platform, dad Markus, 31, hopped back onto the express train for the bags, only for the doors to close behind him.
"It was horrible watching my son's face as we pulled out of the station," said Markus, who managed to persuade railway staff to make an unscheduled stop at a station 10 miles up the track.
Meanwhile, Jeremias was being cared for by local police after his dad made a 999 call from his mobile phone.
"I felt like such a fool. I was so relieved to get him back," said Markus.
