Luxury shops on a brand new shoe mall in southern China are trying to move two nearby graves - because they claim they're spooking customers.
Two families who own the tombs on the site in Huizhou, Guangdong province, had refused pleas from planners to move them before the shopping centre was built.
So the mall sprung up around them, with shoppers having to view the graves to get in, a bad omen in superstitious China.
"It gives the whole area the feeling of being haunted. The dead are so near to us," said one shop owner.
"Every day when I open my store I see the tombs. Worse still, it's killing business here too. Not many people like to go to a street where there are tombs in the middle of the road," they added.
Now local planning officials will again try to persuade the families to move the graves.
But one family member explained: "We have consulted a fengshui master who says it will be bad luck to move them before 2017. People throw urine and sh*t on our ancestors' graves but we will not budge until the omens are right."
