Nazi Ghetto Archive

croatiantimes.com

A chilling archive of photos taken in Nazi occupied Poland's doomed Lublin Ghetto have gone on show for the first time in more than 60 years.

The ghetto - once home to nearly 40,000 victims - was set up during World War II by invading German forces in 1941 to contain the local Jewish population.

It was bulldozed a year later with tens of thousands of inmates sent to death camps in Belzec and Majdanek.

The pictures - showing inmates being herded into cattle trucks on their way to their deaths - emerged after they were handed into local Jewish community leaders last week.

Owner Raymond Krzyzewski explained: "They were taken by my father who at the time was working for the city's Central Welfare Committee. This is the first time they've been seen since he took them."
