The outlook was extremely foggy when 80 weathermen were challenged to predict the day's forecast just by studying clouds - and not one of them got it right.
Contest organisers in Chongqing city, southern China, banned entrants from studying any charts or computer records.
"There are lots of old ways of predicting the weather without gadgets. We wanted to see how modern weathermen would do," explained one.
But the challenge baffled the modern meteorologists drawn from TV, radio, government departments and the military.
But one contestant complained: "It's very hard to predict anything just by looking. Meteorology has moved on since the old days."
