Feeling Fine

croatiantimes.com

Baffled traffic cops in central China have been swamped by drivers queuing up to pay motoring fines they used to ignore.

New laws in Hefei, Anhui province, mean that if drivers pay a fine within 15 days of getting the ticket, they are let off having points on their licence.

Now anyone flashed by a speed camera or recorded crashing a red light can walk off with just a fine.

"We thought it would be popular but this has overwhelmed us. We have people queuing around the building and down the street.

"Normally they run and hide when they see us," said one officer.

One driver explained: "I can cope with a fine but any more points and I'll lose my licence."
