Unflagging Support

croatiantimes.com

Determined home owner Sun Wan is keeping demolition men at bay with his unflagging vigilance - and rows of hundreds of Chinese flags.

Sun, 48, has refused to moved from his self-built house in Nanning, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China to make way for a luxury flats development.

"We have been here for 20 years. We have our land, our house and a what used to be a nice neighbourhood until they knocked it down," he explained.

"In return all they have offered us is a small flat to move into and that's no good for us," added Sun.

So to defend his home from a surprised attack buy bulldozers, he has surrounded the home with Chinese national flags.

"And it seems to work. They won't cross them and they won't take them down because that would be treason," said Sun.

Developers are now trying to negotiate with Sun so they can carry on with the multi-million GBP project.

"We are willing to talk but he has to be reasonable. All the other householders have gone," said a spokesman.
