Torch and Go

croatiantimes.com

Flaming heck. Nothing could torch these youngsters from western India when it came to thinking big for a new world record.

The 1,600 pupils - all dressed as monks - arranged themselves into the shape of a giant torch in Vadodara in a tribute to legendary Hindu holy man Swami Vivekananda.

The torch - 186ft long and 54ft wide - has earned the stunt a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, say organisers.

"It was in honour of the Swami on what would have been his 150th birthday. He was a light in the darkness which is why we made a torch," said one organiser.

Swami Vivekananda - a close associate of Gandhi - is thought to be one of the Hindu religion's most important leaders and is responsible for popularising Yoga in both India and the West.
