A 49-year-old driver who plunged into a stream when he nodded off at the wheel astonished rescuers when he was still snoozing when they pulled him out.
Driver Manfred Hofer - from Willisau, Switzerland - told police the last thing he remembers was feeling drowsy at the wheel.
Investigators believe he was fast asleep as the car veered off the road, down and embankment and into the stream.
"He says he wasn't aware of anything else until he was woken by the rescue team.
"They thought he'd been unconscious but in fact he'd just been sleeping very heavily," said a police spokesman.
Paramedics say Hofer is recovering from fractures in hospital.
