A suspected mafia mob leader denying extortion charges has been put in the frame after he posted a snap of himself brandishing two deadly handguns on Facebook.

Adrian Corduneanu - said to be the head of one of the most violent crime families in Moldova - uses the profile to show himself as a family man, posing with his grandmother as they sing traditional songs.

But the 34-year-old crook is facing a new inquiry after a picture emerged on the site showing him flexing his heavily tattooed muscular arms while waving two automatic pistols in the air.

Corduneanu - who has served jail time for gang activity - had claimed to be a reformed character when police launched an investigation into money laundering, fraud and blackmail.

"It certainly puts his claim to be a new man in a different light," said one officer.

But dad of three Corduneanu claims the picture is a fake, put onto his Facebook page by hackers.

"His profile has been tampered with. This picture isn't right," said one family friend.

But a police source explained: "His gang celebrates violence.

"All the members pose for pictures with weapons and then out them online."
