Croats say connections key for career
Croatian Times
Nearly two-thirds of Croatians believe they can get a job only if they have a "good connections".
The magazine "Poslovni savjetnik" and Proago Consulting company conducted an online survey entitled "How to get a job in Croatia" from 27 January to 16 February.
Connections were identified by 62 per cent of the 248 respondents. Only 20 per cent said they believed hard work could lead to a good job, while 11 per cent said it was necessary to have proper knowledge, and 7 per cent believed it was "something else".
Nevertheless, 32 per cent claimed they had built their careers through their own hard work.
Only 15 per cent admitted they got their current job through a recommendation from a friend, family member or other acquaintance.
