Croatia lacks greenfield investments

The vast majority of foreign investments in Croatia is destined for existing projects and few funds go to greenfield investments that create jobs, Croatian National Bank (HNB) says.
Since 1993 until the first half of 2011 Croatia received 24.7 billion Euros of foreign capital or 5,600 Euros per head. Although Croatia is relatively well-positioned on the scale of the countries that are recipients of foreign investments, the key problem is the unfavourable structure of theses investments, say HNB analysts.
Half of the total direct foreign investments goes to existing projects, while only a small part is destined for greenfield investments that create jobs and contribute to the development of the economy.
The majority of the investments was focused on property acquisitions in the services sector, Croatian Radio Television (HRT) reports.
