Croatia would benefit from EURO, HNB economist says

The Euro will be useful for Croatia and will not jack up prices, Croatian National Bank economist says.

Judita Cuculic says that Croatia will introduce the Euro only when it concludes it would benefit from it as well as fulfil all the criteria that Euro countries had to fulfil.

Considering Croatia’s high debts, the Euro would be useful, Cuculic said.

The biggest fear that reigns amongst the public is that the Euro would jack up the prices, a reasonable fear that almost every country had before taking the currency.

"But the data from other member states shows that the fear is unfounded and that the price increase in those states was anywhere between 0.2 to 0.3 per cent, in other words negligible," Cuculic said.
