Unemployment rate at nine year high

The registered unemployment rate in Croatia hit a 9 year high when January's official figures were released by the State Bureau of Statistics yesterday (Tues).
The unemployment rate for January was 19.8 per cent, up 1.1 per cent from December. The last time the unemployment rate was higher than this in April 2003, when it was 20.4 per cent and 345,300 people were registered with the Employment Service. A total of 334,351 people were registered with the Employment Service at the end of this past January.
The lowest unemployment rate reported in the last ten years was 12.3 per cent in August 2008, when 219,300 people were registered with the Employment Service.
