Weekend sees tourist record set

Croatian Times

On Saturday alone, 98 commercial and 6 small planes, with more than 23,000 passengers, landed and departed at Split's airport in Dalmatia. The weekend's tourist traffic set the daily record for the season, surpassing last weekend's 22,000 passengers.

During the weekend around 35,000 passengers arrived and departed at Split's ferry port also, which was also a record number. "The greatest number of passengers, about 50 per cent of them, travelled from Split to the island of Brac, along with the 14 regular ferries to the island we added one extra so we could get all the passengers to the island," said Ante Mrvica from Jadrolinija ferries.

Mrvica added that most of the passengers this weekend were foreigners and besides the island of Brac, most tourists travelled to the islands of Hvar, Vis and Korcula.

It was not only the airport and ferry terminal that was busy in Split, more than 12 international buses arrived on Saturday alone, with for the first time 4 buses of tourists from Vienna, reported website dalje.com.
