Croatian government to privatise state-owned insurer

The Croatian government yesterday (Thursday) made moves to start the proceedure to privatise and recapitalise state-owned insurance company Croatia Osiguranje, reports website Tportal.
Croatia's Minister of Finance Slavko Linic said that the government plans to sell up to 50 per cent of its stake in the insurer, of which it owns 82 per cent. Linic said that with recapitalisation, Croatia Osiguranje would strengthen its position in the life insurance market.
With a consultant to be appointed, their task will be to conduct market research and make an analysis of interested buyers. Linic said that the money generated from the sale would go to covering budget deficits.
