Inflation continues to ease in Croatia

Croatian Times

Consumer prices in Croatia in July were by 3.4 per cent higher compared to same month last year, but inflation continued to decline, after May reached its highest levels in the last three years, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

According to DZS data, in July, the price of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, were on average lower than in May by 1.0 per cent, whilst compared to July last year, they had risen by 3.4 per cent.

When looking at goods and services prices in July, compared with the previous month of June, prices of clothing, footwear, housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels fell the most in the month.

The fall in the consumer price index was mitigated by the costs of recreation and culture, which were on average 1.3 per cent higher than in June. Food, soft drinks and health care prices were on average higher by 0.1 per cent.

On an annual basis, growth in consumer prices was mostly driven by higher prices of energy, fuel and housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Food prices recorded a relatively high annual growth of 4.3 per cent, with the biggest rise in the price of fruit (12.7 per cent) and vegetables (9.2 percent), reported Croatian radiotelevision.
