Croatia and Slovenia approach Bank for International Settlements to settle bank dispute

Croatia has asked Slovenia to speed up resolving a banking dispute by jointly approaching the Bank for International Settlements.
Two years ago BIS refused to get involved in the row over a 312 million Deutsche Mark debt owed by Slovenia to Croatia dating back to when the two were part of Yugoslavia.
Now Zagreb wants the debt dealt with before it joins the EU next year.
"We are suggesting that both countries, once again, turn to BIS over the issue," Danijela Barisic, a spokeswoman at the Foreign Ministry in Zagreb, told Bloomberg.
But fears linger that Slovenia could block Croatia’s ratification as it did in 2009 when it refused to get involved in accession talks over a border dispute.
