Climate conference on Solta Island
Croatian Times
Sixty-five members of Friends of the Earth International and partner organisations are attending a climate conference from 15 to 22 August on Solta Island.
Young activists are using the conference to plan for the world climate summit that will be held at the end of the year in Copenhagen.
They want to improve cooperation on the environment among young people.
The conference has been organized by Green Action, Friends of the Earth International Croatia and Young Friends of the Earth Europe and is being supported by the Netherlands and the European Union.
Guests lecturers from Croatia, Australia, Argentina, South Africa, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Germany are experts in the field of environmental protection. They are lecturing about global, European and national politics regarding climatic change.
Young Friends of the Earth Europe member Sophie Manson called on all young people to help reduce emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Manson said: "It is necessary for young people to be involved in making climate policy because they will feel the results of such policy the most in the future."
Friends of the Earth International is the world's largest grass-roots environmental network.
