´I am safe´ iPhone application in response to Lapthorne´s death

The tragic death of young Australian backpacker Britt Lapthorne has motivated 64-year-old Tim Hine from Melbourne to launch an "I am safe" iPhone application for calling for help.
The device would alert family members all over the world if used. "I am Safe" can be activated with a single touch of a button immediately to alert up to five friends or family members that its user is in danger.
It sends them voice, SMS and mail messages and also shows them on a map where the user is thanks to Google.
The web site "iTWire.com" has reported "I am Safe" is available for download from the iTunes App Store at a price of 6.99 US dollars but can still be downloaded at a promotional price of 4.99 US dollars.
Hine said his aim was not to earn money but to prevent a tragedy like the one that befell Britt Lapthorne. He has already sold already hundreds of his iPhone applications to people in 54 countries.
Lapthorne’s family found out she had disappeared six days after she had.
Her body was found in the sea near Dubrovnik last year almost a month after she had gone missing on the night of 17/18 September 2008. She was last seen at the Fuego night club in Dubrovnik. She was 21 years old.
