Embassy security guard dismissed for spying on the ambassador

Ivan Saric, a member of the security team at the Croatian embassy in Washington, D.C., has been dismissed for spying on the husband of Croatian Ambassador Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic.

He did so after she had allegedly refused to extend his tour.

Saric was called back to Zagreb, where he admitted he had taken a photo of Jakov Kitarovic using an embassy car to take their children to school. He sent the pictures to around 40 media outlets.

Croatian national television has reported that both Saric and the ambassador will be sanctioned.

Her husband has reportedly been using a Croatian embassy car for a year for private purposes, during which time he allegedly put 50,000 kilometres on it.
