Official takes out a fake ad to promote tourism in Zagorje

A Croatian official has come up with a bizarre plan to promote his region by pretending to want to buy a really expensive car so he can make the headlines.
Sinisa Hajdas Doncic, the head of Krapina-Zagorje County in northern Croatia, was fed up with not seeing his area mentioned in the press after the county had spent a lot of money to make it a popular tourist destination.
He came up with the idea of an ad to guarantee publicity for presentation of the tourism slogan: "Zagorje – A Fairytale in the Palm of Your Hand."
In the ad, he described the car in detail, leading some to believe that he was referring to Skoda Superb, a vehicle that would have cost around 37,000 euros. This apparent extravagance at a time of recession and the ad's detailed description led to media speculation and consequently the desired attention.
Hajdas Doncic said: "We know that this move is unusual, but we’ve invested a lot in Zagorje as a tourist destination. However, there has been very little media interest in that," the Croatian daily 24 Sata has reported.
