National bank governor to testify in Austrian Hypo case

Croatian Times

Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski will testify in the case of
Carinthian Hypo Group Alpe Adria (HGAA) bank before the Parliament of the Austrian province of Carinthia.

Rohatinski is one of 70 people who should will testify about who is to blame for the bank’s threatened bankruptcy before it was nationalised by the Austrian government late last year.

The hearings begin on 24 March and, according to the daily Vecernji list, Rohatinski is scheduled to testify on 14 April. He will discuss HGAA’s business in Croatia.

HNB told the daily that it had not yet been officially notified by the court.

The Austrian and Croatian media have already reported that former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was involved in the case, but Sanader has dismissed allegations he was compensated by HGAA for helping it do business in Croatia.
