Roma victims sentenced while attackers get off

Three men who attacked Roma bar customers have been let off with conditional sentences - and the victims have been jailed.
Marijan Plesa, 48, Nino Kalinic, 29, and Krunoslav Plantic, 30 were drunk when they attacked Djuro Horvat, Stjepan Orsos, Senad Bogdan and Zeljko Horvat while yelling "all Roma, Bosnians and Serbs should be killed."
Plesa was the first to start throwing glasses and bottles at them, before taking a metal pipe and smashing up their parked car.
Kalinic then started hitting them while Plantic ran to his car to get an axe.
The Roma men defended themselves by throwing back bottles and other glass objects, and then with physical blows.
But at the court hearing in Koprivnica, judge Ivan Pobi sentenced them to eight days in prison and let the attackers off with conditional sentences. Their incitement to hatred was ignored by the court, the Croatian daily Jutarnji List writes.
