Croatia gets its own WikiLeaks

The Croatian version of whistle-blower website WikiLeaks has been launched and will soon start publishing exclusive information on some of the country's current affairs.
The founder of Croatia's WikiLeaks is 27-year-old Dean Golubic, best known for running for president in 2009 as the youngest ever candidate. Golubic was also a former member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
After leaving HDZ he formed his own part National Democrats and today he focuses on WikiLeaks.
"We wanted to do in Croatia what had been done in the world. If we look at what our politicians have done in the last 20 years, we will get more material and information than the whole world can manufacture. It is time for someone to tell the truth," said Golubic to the Croatian daily Vecernji List.
Some of the documents his team of volunteers has so far are linked to the former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and some other politicians and the affairs in which they have been implicated.
"It is not possible that some people in HDZ’s top did not know what the president was doing when they were so close to him, they were vice presidents," says Golubic.
But Golubic is aware that his own political past could affect people's perception of his objectivity.
"I understand that people will be asking themselves whether we can be objective. I never wanted to present myself as a politician, but as a man of the people. I cannot be 100 per cent objective, but for the most part, in 99 per cent of the cases, I believe that I am objective when I say that all of our politicians are working against the state," says Golubic.
The Croatian WikiLeaks would be financed from citizen donations, which would be open and public.
Depending on the classification of the documents published, Golubic could be facing serious jail time in case of bringing state secrets to light. Documents that are considered top secret could carry a punishment of six to five years in prison, the daily warns.
Croatian WikiLeaks will be available at wikileaks.hr.
