Ammonia leaks from overturned truck near Virovitica
Croatian Times
A truck transporting diluted ammonia overturned on a highway in Virovitica in Croatia’s northeast, spilling some of its cargo.
Some of the 23.7 tonnes of the substance started leaking when the truck ended up in a ditch after the driver, Tomislav Z. made a right turn that destabilised the vehicle.
The police blocked all access roads to the site of the accident to protect anyone from the hazardous liquid.
Deputy Mayor of Virovitica Ivan Sic said that the liquid poses no dangers to local residents.
"We undertook all necessary measures of protection, so the citizens of Virovitica and neighbouring areas do not need to worry about their safety," Sic said.
