Gotovina and Markac home for the summer?

Croatian Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac sentenced to 24 and 18 years in prison for war crimes, could walk free as early as this summer.
Croatian daily 24 Sata writes that new developments at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague suggest that the final verdict in the two generals’ case after their appeal could lower their sentence to time already served.
That would mean Gotovina and Markac could go home as early as this summer, the daily writes.
Lawyer Anto Nobilo says the Appeals Council sent the first positive sign in this direction when it lowered the time in which it must reach the verdict.
Another positive development will be if the council allows the extraordinary introduction of evidence, thus implying it believes that new evidence could change the previous conclusions of the case.

Banks post huge profits in Croatia again
Banks in Croatia have once again posted huge profits. In the first three months of 2012, banks in Croatia record profits before tax of 1.29 billion kuna (170 million Euros), according to interim unaudited data for 32 banks in the country, it was announced on Wednesday by the Croatian National Bank (HNB).
Finance Ministry gets tough on evasive companies
At the request of creditors, Croatia's leading Financial Agency Fina has blocked around 38,000 companies and 26,000 tradesmen, because of more than 42 million kuna (5,3 million Euros) of outstanding liabilities, reports daily newspaper Vecernji list.
