Former PM accuses government of misleading voters during election

Croatian Times

Former Croatian Prime Minister and current leader of opposition party Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) Jadranka Kosor, is accusing the newly elected coalition government of not being honest during the recent election campaign after the parliamentary debate about the new budget took place on Monday in Zagreb. "If the Kukuriku coalition had announced during the election campaign that they would increase VAT to 25 per cent, and that the average Croatian family would be out of pocket by 2,000 kuna (260 Euros) a year as a result, then maybe the results of the election would have been different," said Kosor. She also announced that HDZ would not vote for the new budget and will submit amendments, although she admitted she was conscious of the fact that the government would not accept them. The HDZ leader reiterated that the budget on the revenue side is over esitimated by 1.5 billion kuna (200 million Euros), and on the expenditure side, underestimated by the same amount, reported daily Novi list.
