Grave robbers dismantle bones of mother and daughter

Croatian Times

Police from the Virovitica-Podravina County in northern Croatia believe that vandals who horrifically desecrated the family grave of the Sajn family at the local cemetery in the town of Suhopolje, were after valuables and gold.

Sickening scenes greeted family members when they went to visit the graves of Zlatica Sajn and her 19-year-old daughter Djesika, who died after being in a coma for nine years as the result of a serious traffic accident.

"Djesika's coffin was broken, her arm was broken off from her body and put on the lid of the coffin. Her mother's coffin was also smashed and her bones were broken. Terrible, it made me sick as I did not expect anyone could do such a thing," said Neno, a cousin of the deceased who immediately notified police.

Family members claim they had no enemies and are at a loss as to why anybody would do this. Police say they have never seen such a case where bodies have been interfered with and they believe gold and other valuables were the motives, reports Croatian daily 24sata.
