Croatians go bananas
Croatian Times
Bananas were the most sold product in Croatia's largest supermarket chain Konzum in 2011, reports Croatian website net.hr.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics in Croatia, more than 48,000 tons of bananas, with a financial value of more than 38.7 million kuna (more than 5 million Euros), were imported into the country in 2011.
There are 33 companies on the list of banana importers in Croatia, according to information from the Croatian Chamber of Economy (CCE), with most of the imported bananas finding their way onto shelves at Konzum supermarkets around the country. Konzum imported 18,000 tons of bananas in 2011.
